Morrissey attended Goldsmiths College in London, where he gained an Honours Degree in Fine Art.
His interest in sculpture and installation developed to include analogue and digital film and the exploration of projected imagery, light, monumentality and sequential /serial development.
He works with Hanz Hancock on group/joint projects, which have included talks and symposia at galleries including Flowers, London. With Hancock he co-founded and edits Saturation Point, the online editorial space for geometric, systems and reductive art in the UK.
Morrissey employs numerical systems in his work, juxtaposing varying modules to produce work that has been described as having a ‘meandering geometry’. His experimental approach references the philosophical debate about systems, and describes forms that can be found within the built or natural environment.
Morrissey’s ontology builds on the late 20th century international modernist tradition, embracing the grammar of geometry, mathematical systems and methodologies. This results in an ongoing process-led , formal rule-based investigation into the infinite possibilities afforded by compositional logic, as witnessed by recent digital projects. He co-founded Saturation Point, the online editorial and curatorial project, with Hanz Hancock in 2014. This has re-invigorated interest in reductive , geometric and systems-based work in the UK, with activities including recent collaboration on symposia, with galleries such as Flowers East and Anglia Ruskin college, Cambridge.
