Two people in a room 7’x5’ 2010

Patrick Morrissey is an artist living and working in London, where he trained in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College.  His work uses systems that create a form of meandering geometry, can broadly be described as constructivist/reductive, and which develop with each work he produces. The works can take on a kinetic appearance, which manifests itself in a number of ways; this phenomenon is co-incidental to the work, but nonetheless lends an intrinsic quality that enhances the structure of the images.

Morrissey is currently restricting his work to painting, both for aesthetic and practical reasons. He has previously worked in film, installation and sculpture, and may return to these at some point.  He feels that the type of work he is creating has a lot in common with the current European / international reductive art movement, which has a long-standing history and tradition stemming from the early 20th century in France, Germany and the USA.

Morrissey shares a studio with Clive (Hanz) Hancock. The two artists collaborate on ideas, and while their work is distinctly individual, there is a visual relationship between their bodies of work, as both artists use reductive work methods.
